The program starts with a 3 to 4-day mandatory orientation.  This orientation is both practical and cultural, including information sessions about IFSA-Butler regulations, safety, housing rules, academic regulations and the difference between US and Spanish systems, a city tour of Alcalá and an excursion to Madrid.

Fall:  The students have a one-month Intensive Spanish Language course at Alcalingua – Universidad de Alcalá.  The students take other special program courses the rest of the semester taught in advanced level Spanish, such as Spanish Literature, Art, History, Politics, Cinema, and Economy.  These courses are also given at Alcalingua – Universidad de Alcalá.

Spring:  The students take a three-week Intensive Spanish Language and Culture course taught at Alcalingua – Universidad de Alcalá before starting regular integrated classes at the University of Alcalá along with Spanish students.  Students can choose classes from almost any faculty at UAH, as long as they have the necessary prerequisites.

Year:  Year-long students take a three-week Intensive Spanish Language and Culture course taught at Alcalingua – Universidad de Alcalá before starting regular integrated classes at the University of Alcalá along with Spanish students.  Students can choose classes from almost any faculty at UAH, as long as they have the necessary prerequisites.

Students live with carefully selected host-families, as we feel this is the best and safest way to experience and become integrated into the Spanish way of life.

Various program-sponsored group trips and activities are offered throughout the year to take advantage of Spain’s cultural and historical richness.
