The University of Kansas Semester in Spain program offers
students the opportunity to take advanced Spanish courses
at Cursos Internacionales at the University of Santiago
de Compostela as well as from on-site KU faculty. The
program is open to students from any accredited college
or university with a minimum of four semesters of college-level
Spanish). Students must also hold a 2.75 cumulative GPA,
a B average in Spanish, and have strong recommendations
from their instructors. All classes are taught in Spanish.
Courses include advanced Spanish Grammar and Composition,
Spanish Literature, Contemporary Spanish History, Spanish
Culture, Spanish Art History, Islamic Culture in Spain,
Transatlantic Hispanic Culture, Spanish Compositon and
Cultural Analysis and Spanish Phonetics. Students earn
up to 16 hours of KU credit.
Housing is in apartments with Spanish students; participants
find their own housing with assistance from a housing
agent. Program includes a week- long excursion to such
sites as Madrid and environs or Andalucía as well
as short trips (day trip or weekend). Students may spend
one or two semesters on the program. Only CU students
apply to the University of Colorado; all other students
apply to the University of Kansas. Fall semester: September
to December; Spring semester: January to early May.
