Georgetown University students have the opportunity to fully integrate into Spanish society and the Spanish academic environment by attending either the Universidad Pontificia Comillas (UPCO) or the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM). They enroll in regular classes with degree-seeking students in both universities. Students are limited to one o two classes for foreigners (Erasmus or Reunidas). The academic calendar varies according to the university but generally speaking, runs from September through December (Fall semester) and January/February through May/June (Spring semester). G.U. students are expected to complete either the full academic year or one semester.
On the home campus, students will receive academic orientation from the appropriate overseas studies advisor and their college Dean. In Spain, the Resident Director and the host university faculty will continue the advising process in order to ensure that students enroll in classes that meet their academic needs and interests. At the beginning of each semester, the program offers incoming students a one week orientation session that focuses on language, cultural and academic integration. During these periods and throughout the academic year, Spanish peers will help students understand the nuances of the Spanish educational system and society.
Participants are urged to take part in the writing and the SIELE/DELE workshops as well as intercultural competency coaching sessions. Activities such as language exchanges and volunteer work are encouraged. The Program organizes visits to museums, field trips to monumental cities and sponsors local experiences such as cooking classes, wine tasting and shows. Georgetown University has an active alumni club and often students are able to attend these events as well.

The Georgetown University en Salamanca Program offers its students two programs: Direct Matriculation into classes at one or both partner universities (the Universidad de Salamanca and the Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca) and Language and Culture classes through the office of Cursos Internacionales at the Universidad de Salamanca. Direct Matriculation students may stay a full academic year or Spring semester. They must register in a minimum of 5 classes and 15 hours of instruction at the host universities. Students receive assistance with matriculation and an introduction to academic culture in Salamanca during the week-long orientation program. Throughout the semester, students receive continuing academic, language and cultural adaptation support and advising, some obligatory and some optional. Language students stay for one semester (September - December or March - June) to take language and culture classes. During the first month, intermediate through superior level students' daily schedule consists of 2 hours of language and 1 hour of Spanish culture, while beginners take 3 hours of language instruction. During the subsequent trimester, all students take 5 hours of instruction per day, 2 of which must consist of a language intensive. The remaining three daily hours are language and culture electives. Language students may request optional tutorials to support their language progress. They receive support in the area of cultural adaptation. Cultural activities and excursions aim to assist students in deepening their knowledge of Spanish culture. To this end, the program also incorporates Spanish mentor students in program events and supports students in finding local volunteer and extra-curricular activities.
