SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA
UMD-Spring Break: Spain: El Camino de Santiago de Compostela/Saint James Way (SPAN)
"Solvitur ambulando" which translates to "It
is resolved by walking" is a motto that has inspired many pilgrims
around the world. In medieval times, there were three major
pilgrimagesites: Jerusalem, Rome, and Compostela. However, the
pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in Spain developed a unique and
distinctive culture that persists today, differing from the rest of
Europe since its origins in the 9th century. Thus, El Camino de Santiago
or the Road to Santiago, also known as Saint James Way or the French
Way, has been one of the most traveled routes since the Middle Ages.
Today, El Camino continues to facilitate cultural exchanges, a
testament to the relevance of this 1000-year-old tradition, and one
aspect that has remained unchanged: the interaction among pilgrims.
VALENCIA
ENGR Exchange: Universitat Politecnica de Valencia (UPV) (Spain)
